Kelana Jaya (P104)
Loh Gwo Burne Vs Lee Hwa Beng
Spoiler – Billie Lim, author and motivational speaker
Kelana Jaya is home to many of the affluent upmarket professionals and wealthy business owners in the Klang Valley. It is generally a very middle class constituency. According to The Star, this parliamentary constituency has 74,649 voters, made up of 42.1% Malays, 37.5% Chinese, 19.4% Indians and 1% others.
Lee Hwa Beng is the ex Subang Jaya state assemblyman who many say is one of the better MCA elected representatives. He has done a good job as state assemblymen for Subang Jaya. Lee Hwa Beng appeals to the Chinese, Indian and Malay middle class. People sometimes say that Lee Hwa Beng is a good politician in the wrong party – don’t know if this is meant to be a compliment or an insult to him. Lee Hwa Beng nevertheless now moves up from a state seat Subang Jaya to a parliamentary seat, Kelana Jaya. He is currently Kelana Jaya MCA head.
Loh Gwo Burne is a newbie in politics. His only claim to fame is his video clip of lawyer VK Lingam apparently making deals pertaining to the appointment of judges, which is subject of the recent controversy . Loh Gwo Burne is contesting this seat under the Keadilan ticket.
Billie Lim is standing as an independent, as usual. In previous general elections he stood for the Bukit Bintang parliamentary seat but he got so few votes that he lost his deposit. Many believe that Billie is only contesting in politics for the free publicity he can obtain from the media – he is an attention seeker. He knows that he can’t win but he doesn’t care. In this election, he is again expected to lose his deposit.
Prediction: Lee Hwa Beng of MCA to win. The question is by how many votes majority.
