Now You Can Switch Your H/P Network And Still Keep Your H/P Number

This is the good news all handphone users in Malaysia have been waiting for.

According to news reports, Energy, Water and Communications Minister Datuk Shaziman Abu Mansor confirmed that, from today (friday), you can switch network service providers (mobile phone company) and still maintain your original phone number, including the prefix number (012, 016, 019, 017, 013, 014 etc).

For instance, if your handphone number is 012 235763 (originally registered with Maxis), you can use exactly the same number if you switch to Digi, without changing your number to 016 / 014.

However, effective today, only prepaid mobile phone numbers in the Klang Valley can do this. Post-paid users will be able to do this in two weeks’ time.

For handphone users in other states in Malaysia, they will be able to do this only in October.

This will give you the choice and freedom to choose your service provider without the inconvenience of having to change your number

Service providers can charge up to RM25 each time your change your mobile phone service provider.

Pirated Windows XP Will Experience "Blackout" Tomorrow

Starting Tomorrow (Wednesday), if you are using pirated copies of Microsoft Windows XP Professional operating system on your computer and connect to the Internet, your computer display is going be "blacked out" and the screen icons on your computer will not be visible, warned Microsoft Malaysia.

According to news reports, of the approximately 8.6 million users of Windows XP Pro in Malaysia, about 3 million are pirated copies and expected to experience the “blackouts".

If you are using a pirated copy of Windows XP Pro and your computer experience a blackout, you can get your computer working normally by resetting the desktop background, then everything will return to normal. But after 1 hour, the black screen will reappear and you must reset the desktop background again. This will keep hapening until you purchase a genuine Windows XP Pro from Microsoft currently sold at RM580.

Apparently pirated Windows XP Home edition will not be affected by this, as yet. Microsoft is targeting businesses first, and letting home users off the hook, for the mean time.

Note that Microsoft has stopped selling Windows XP Pro in the market, so you may have to buy Windows Vista instead. If your computer cannot run Windows Vista, then you'd have to buy a new computer or upgrade your current computer.

Traits are attributes related to one's state of mind; its part of your personality.

To be successful in business or in anything else, you must have a high level of self esteem. Without a high self esteem, you will never be successful in anything.

This twin brother of self esteem is self confidence. Self confidence is a believe in one's abilities. Without a high level of self esteem, you cannot have self confidence and thus cannot be successful, in anything.

Courage - the mother of all essential traits. Everyone seek for it but not everyone possess it. You must have courage to face adversity and handle the pressures and stress of life. Without a high level of self esteem and self confidence, you cannot have courage. Different cultures have different methods to instill courage in its people. Yes, the main difference is performing under pressure - in the face of adversity. All your skills and talents are useless if you cannot perform under pressure. Top sportsmen, businessmen and politicians know this very well. We have all seen professional footballers miss scoring a crucial goal in a penalty kick. Professional golfers make the same mistake - missing a crucial putt. Politicians who crumble when accused of being involved in a scandal. Businessmen who are defeated when faced with financial pressures of a down economy or keen competition. They cannot perform under pressure - they lack courage. Pressure changes the equation. Some people are able to focus under pressures of adversity, others crumble.

The next trait is ruthlessness. Metaphorically speaking, you must be willing to kill or be killed in this dog eat dog would. A lot of business people will leave ruthlessness out from their advice, because it makes them look immoral. Ruthlessness is not about morality; it is the reality of life - watch any animal in the wild and you'd see the process of natural selection in action - survival of the fittest. Again, if you have no courage, you cannot be ruthless - you'd be a pussycat instead of a lion.

Another key factor diligence (being hardworking). If you are lazy, then it would be very difficult to carry out your plans; things will be left undone and the the rest is history...

Without these traits, one cannot put into action the skills below (except for fundamentals of finance and creativity skills). And to obtain these traits, is not easy at all - it takes a major personality change.

Some people say it takes years to change a persons personality - because you've acquired your personality, to a large extent, from the environment you've been brought up in. That's why workshops and personal development courses on the skills below do not work for the majority of people - whilst participants can learn the techniques, but they cannot put it into action. Only those who already possess the above essential personality traits can put those skills learned into action.

As life is about daily dealing with people with competing interests, ideals, mindsets and wants you'd need to be a champion negotiator to get what you want. Negotiation skills are ancillary networking and selling skills. Although you can delegate the minor business negotiations to an employee, you'd have to know how to negotiate the big stuff.

To be successful in business, you definitely need to know the fundamentals of finance - the difference between costing, profit and loss, cash flow, assets and liabilities etc. Whilst you can delegate this to your accountant, but you'd need to know the fundamentals to make important financial decisions. As business is about selling more than it cost you to produce your goods and services, thus you'd need to know enough about finance to plan about managing your costs.

Time is money and thus you should know how to utilise time properly. Time management is getting more and more important in this fast paced world. Time management is all about getting your activities organised and carrying out your plans. Time management reduces stress and increases your respect - it shows that you have everything under control.

Creativity is also an increasingly essential skill in business. Not all things can be learned from books. You must learn to be creative in generating business ideas, marketing your products, forming alliances and solving problems.

We all have been through this process except for the lucky few who do not have to work for others, or the unlucky few who are unemployable.

I have noticed that busy interviewers (usually the head of dept) don't really bother to remember the contents of an interviewee's resume. He / she will only read it just before the interview - they usually already have in mind the type of person the want to hire.

What they usually notice is the photo (so make sure you attach your best one) and highlights of your qualifications and work experience. Everything else in your resume is simply ignored or overlooked - nobody really cares if you were class monitor ("Ketua Darjah") or if you collect stamps as a hobby. Nobody also cares if you can play the piano, except if you can play it naked and with your toes.

Lets face it, paper qualifications these days are quite generic, except if you graduated from a top university.

When and how did Big Sister Ping really make it big ?

After the Tiananmen Square Massacre in 1990s, as more and more Chinese wanted to migrate from China to Western countries, business started booming for Ping. She bought a building directly across the street from a branch of the Bank of China in New York's Chinatown for US$3 million, in cash. She later also bought the building next door.

Big Sister Ping, runs a restaurant called the "Yung Sun restaurant" in that building across the street from a branch of the Bank of China. It is said that she ran her restaurant better than the bank - not as only restaurant but also an underground bank. Yes, Ping's restaurant was also an unlicensed bank - she loaned and transferred money for her "customers". People used her "banking services" because she was more efficient then the Bank of China across the road - she could transfer money overnight just by making phone calls to China. The Bank of China was slow, it took 3 weeks to transfer money and gave a bad foreign exchange rate and delivered the cash in Yuan, instead of dollars. Her underground bank transferred the money in hours, charged less and paid in US dollars.

Because things became so bad for the Bank of China and it became threatened by Ping's underground bank - it began offering colour TVs and prizes just to lure customers away from the underground bank. The Bank of China also started a large propaganda campaign against her underground bank by taking out ads in local Chinese newspapers warning people they could get in trouble by using the underground banks. Still. nobody gave a fcuk, and didn't go to the Bank Of China because the service is fcuked up.

In the late '80s and early 90s, Big Sister Ping's reputation and stature as a businesswomen had grown so high that she was the best-known and most respected figure in New York's Chinatown.

After the Tiananmen Square Massacre, she had organised a global smuggling network by forming alliances with many small Snakehead operations around the world. She also made important contacts useful people i.e. by buying off corrupt immigration, tourist and other officials to obtain fake or purchased passports, Visas and other documents.

Ping charged a small down payment, and potential illegal immigrants had to borrow the rest of the money upon arrival to the US from families already in the US. Those who did not have families, could borrow money from loan sharks and were found jobs at restaurants, massage parlors, laundries, garment factories etc and allowed to pay off the debt in installments, with interest, fo course. However, unlike other Snakeheads, who beat up migrants who could not afford to pay the fees, Big Sister Ping did not do that. People said that she is benevolent and kind - she sent money to the families of those who died on their way to the US or waived the fees for a son to go over instead.

The Chinese don't see human smuggling as a crime. They see it as a necessary service. And for some Big Sister Ping was seen like a goddess because the consider her a benevolent and kind Snakehead - they consider her as a kind of Robin Hood.

Others, however, say she is a cruel woman, who used the notorious Fuk Ching gang to prey on the helpless illegal migrants - she would not hesitate to kill, some say.

Big Sister Ping charges from US$20,000 to US$35,000 for an illegal immigrant. Reports say that many illegal immigrants were held hostage by members of the Fuk Ching gang who tortured them if they can't pay the fees.

It is rumoured that at one time, she transferred $40 million US in illegal earnings back to China. She is seen by Asian standards as an outstanding businesswomen turning a restaurant to a underground bank and a human smuggling operation into a vast global empire with links to organised crime - especially with the notorious Fuk Ching triad.

Ping legally holds three passports - a Hong Kong, a U.S. and a Belize passport.

Chinese from China emigrate to the U.S. illegally for more money. That is the main, if not only reason. Report shows that an illegal Chinese can earn about US$1,500 a month working at a restaurant in America. An illegal immigrant who sends half that money home to China can make his or her family move into the upper class in China, where the average income, is between $250 and $300 a year.

How One Poor Chinese Woman Got Very Rich In America

Do you know who this is ?

This woman is a big time Tai Kar Che (Big Sister, in Cantonese), in New York's Chinatown. This is a story of how Cheng Chui Ping rose from being a poor girl from a village in Fujian, China to becoming Tai Kar Che of New York's Chinatown, with connections with the powerful Chinese triads.

She started from nothing to becoming so rich in New York that she bought a building for US$3 million (approximately RM10 million), in cash, and reportedly transferred US$40 million (approximately RM130 million) to China.

She started as a general worker in a Chinese restaurant and later got into the business of smuggling illegal immigrants - she became a big time Snakehead.

Snakeheads (called "Sheah Thau" in Cantonese) are Chinese gangsters or triads that deal in human trafficking - they smuggle people to other countries. They are mainly found in the Fujian region of China and smuggle their "customers" (often from China and Vietnam) into wealthier countries in Western Europe (mainly the UK, France, Germany, Denmark),America, Canada, Australia, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand. Because of culture and language, in Western countries, these illegal immigrants will be confined to work mainly in Chinatowns, but in Asian countries with a sizable Chinese population, they work in numerous small Chinese businesses away from the sight of the authorities.

The Snakeheads fees vary according to the country, but can be as high as US$50,000 per person. Snakeheads use various methods to get their customers into countries - they usually use stolen or altered passports, illegally obtained visas, and bribe officials.

In order to pay the "fees" to the Snakeheads, many of these illegal immigrants end up working in "under the table" low-wage (often lower than the minimum wage) service jobs, e.g., as restaurant waiters or dishwashers, masseuses in massage parlors, prostitutes, general workers in laundries, pirated DVD outlets, illegal gambling dens etc.Some Snakeheads will "help" these illegal immigrants obtain financiang from loan sharks (common called "Ah Long" in Malaysia) to pay the "immigration service fees" to the Snakeheads.In Malaysia, Snakeheads call themselves "foreign worker agents".

In June this year, 57 year old Cheng Chui Ping aka Big Sister Ping was sentenced 35 year in prison in New York for running one of the largest illegal immigrant smuggling syndicates. She has an infamous reputation of smuggling large numbers of illegal immigrants to Chinatowns of Canada and the United States.

Ping was born in 1949 in the poor farming village of Shengmei in China's coastal province of Fujian. Big Sister Ping's parents were peasants and life was hard under the brutal communist regime in China.

Although life was tough on her and luck did not favour her when she was born, she was determined to improve her life. She somehow made her way to Hong Kong and later with the help of Snakeheads, she went to Canada and then in 1981 she immigrated to New York alone leaving her husband and family behind.

Upon arriving in New York, Ping began working in a Chinese restaurant as a general worker, she was chopping vegetables, washing dishes and waiting on tables, then she started selling clothes on Hester street and cheap food along East Broadway. People who know her described her as an extremely hardworking woman. Later, when she had more money, she opened a provision shop (sundry shop) on Hester Street selling variety items and souvenirs. As she established herself financially and she became a naturalised US citizen, her husband and children joined her in New York.

Alhough Big Sister Ping and her family was already quite wealthy by the late eighties, they continued to work each day in their business. They did not drive big cars or wear fancy clothes. She usually took the subway (train) when she travelled. She does this so that she does not attract too much attention - this is important if you're running an illegal business. A famous American gangster also used this strategy, Frank Lucas - a famous American Gangster.

What Happened To The Bigfoot Sightings In Johor ?

In December 2005 - January 2006 there were reports of Bigfoot sightings in the jungles of Johor. Although the government was trying to track down the legendary monster, there is still no official proof.

Sighting were reported by the locals in the village of Mawai, Johor. Mawai was formally called "Mawas" the local name for Bigfoot or Sasquatch. The beast is called different names in different regions - Yeti in Tibet and Nepal, Yeren in mainland China, and Yowie in Australia.

Mawas has also been apparently sighted in the jungles of Tanjung Piai, Mersing, Kahang, Kota Tinggi and the Endau Rompin National Park (bordering Johor and Pahang).

Bigfoot looks like a gorilla and is believed to inhabit remote forests.

In many customs, Bigfoot is the stuff of folklore. It is said to stand nearly 8 feet tall and weighs more than 500 pounds. Bigfoot comes from the 17-inch-long footprints it leaves behind.

What happened to Bigfoot ?

I was told by someone that Bigfoot was stopped and interviewed by a policeman for committing an offense - "indecent exposure", because it didn't wear proper clothes. But the kind police eventually let Bigfoot go after accepting a "small bribe" and giving a stern warning: "lain kali jangan buat lagi".

Warning: Ways You Can Be Extorted At Night In Malaysia

Malaysia is getting to be very dangerous at night, especially in Kuala Lumpur.

Last 2 years, a few days before Chinese New Year, my friend and I went for a few drinks at night and then headed for home at about 1.30am. On the way home, we decided to have something to eat at the food court at Taman Desa Kuala Lumpur. There were no other cars at the huge car park, so we had the whole parking lot to ourselves (those who knows this food court will know how large it is).

There were no other customers at the food court except us. There was only the Wan Ton mee stall Myanmar workers who were about to close shop and a few other Myanmar workers mending the drinks counter also closing shop.

We ordered Wan Ton mee and 2 large bottles of Carlsberg beer. Once the Myanmar workers served us the food and drinks they went home and left us alone at the food court.

After finishing our meal, we continued to drink our beer and chatted. Then about 2.30am an old beat-up red Proton Wira drove in the food court area, made a round then "accidentally" hit my friend's new Vios right in front of our eyes. The Wira hit the back of the Vios which dented it and broke one side of the back light.

We then got out and met the Proton Wira driver and his friend (both young punks - in their early 20s). The driver apologised and offered to pay for the damage. My friend agreed. Then the punk said he had to call his "friend" to get an assessment of the damage. Within 5 minutes the punk's "friend" drove to the food court in his 30 year old beat-up Mercedes. He stopped his car at the accident scene abruptly, swung opened his car door and came out of the car. But he left his car engine on, his car door still open and his car head lamp still on (just like in Hong Kong gangster films).

The punks "friend" is an elder looking Chinese guy (in his late 30s or early 40s) who looks, acts and speaks like some kind of "Tai Kor". The punk driver refused to give us his IC number and said that if we wanted compensation we had to go to their workshop. My friend and I sensed something fishy and said we wanted to make a police report at the police station nearby.

The Tai Kor became angry and said he knew all the police there and then proceeded to call someone on his handphone. 5 minutes later a policeman riding a cup chai came to the scene, he advised us to settle the matter amicably and then left.

We knew then that these "thugs" were not going to pay any compensation and that the "accident" was just their modus operandi to extort money from people. My friend then politely told the Tai Kor and the punks that they don't have to pay any compensation despite the damage to his Vios, but to just leave us alone.

Upon hearing this, the punk driver and his Tai Kor started getting abusive and stated shouting abuses and kicking the plastic chairs. We just remained calm. Then, suddenly, a tow truck appeared at the scene.

The Tai Kor then said that we owed them money. He said that we had to pay for the damages to their car (the red Wira), the "kow tim money" to the police and the expenses for the tow truck. He said we owe him RM800. Fcuk ! He wanted us to pay for all the trouble they caused us. It was obviously a set up. We just looked surprised at his threats but remained calm.

After a few more abusive words and threats, they walked towards their respective cars (the beat-up Wira and Mercedes). But before driving off the scene, the red Wira backed up and reversed into my friends car again - to hit it at the same spot, to make the damage worse (obviously on purpose) and then shouted a warning: "if you don't want to pay us, then you have to be very careful, we will be watching you". Then both cars sped off - Hong Kong gangster style. ;)

There is another story about a friend's friend - James, who was driving his brand new Camry at night somewhere in Ampang. A car from nowhere then hit him from behind, he stopped his car and got out. 2 people came out of the other car pretending to inquire about the "accident", then one of them took out a parang and threatened James. The thugs then drove off with James' new Camry, his wallet and handphone.

If someone hit your car, don't get out or negotiate when there are no other people around. Drive towards the nearest police station and make a report.

Try to also avoid filling petrol after midnight (especially ladies). There are news reports that people have been attacked and extorted by Mat Rempits. After 12am, all the petrol stations' mini markets are closed and the workers at the petrol station will not come out to help you when you are surrounded by 7-10 Mat Rempits.

Sufiah Yusof Gets Help From Pisang

According to Harian Metro, Sufiah Yusof aka Shilpa Lee, the maths genius turned high class prostitute, has agreed to undergo counseling and "treatment" from Pisang this October, to help her turn a new leaf.

Should I Get A Python As A Pet ?

Usually people keep dogs, cats, birds, fish, tortoise, mice, lizards...etc. I have a friend who has a pet monkey. I know its illegal but he said his uncle "caught" it for him from Sarawak and can "kau tim" the authorities.

I decided to rare a Python. I think its legal. :)

You can buy some unusual pets in Pets Wonderland in Mid Valley Kuala Lumpur. I've seen snakes, spiders, geckos, scorpions, chipmunks and ferrets on sale as well.

At a run down pet shop at Brickfields Kuala Lumpur, I've seen a baby python on sale at RM600, A Black Widow Spider on sale at RM200 and a Monitor Lizard (Biawak) for RM150.

The baby Python was about 2 feet long and has the diameter as thick as a florescent tube. The shopkeeper said I could have it for RM500 nett.

However, the shopkeeper told me that the Python has to be fed a white mice, once every week. :( And more mice, as it gets bigger.

I asked him, what if the Python grows up eventually and has a bigger appetite, and then, decides to eat me instead ?

The shopkeeper replied, "that one, no problem, when it become a little big from now...you cook and eat the snake first..la. If you not want to eat the snake..then you can bring back here...I can help you eat it." (He was giggling when he said this)

He wants me to eat my pet after keeping it for a year or alternatively let him eat my pet.

Malaysian Prostitute In England, Noor Azura Gets15 Years Jail

Noor Azura Mohd Yusoff, 22, the Malaysian prostitute based in Birmingham, England was sentenced to 15 years in prison for killing a Chinese karaoke hostess Xie Xing Xing, 23, also known as Evelyn to her friends.

Noor Azura has assumed several names. Although she was known to her friends as Princess, she is also known as Putri, Fioneia, Latina, Soffyah and Jenny.

Xie Xing Xing body has been cut up and dumped in different parts of London's Thames river.

Noor Azura Mohd Yusoff's Belfast-born, Vietnamese boyfriend, Gian Trach Lon, 27, was found guilty of the same offense and was sentenced to 22 years in prison, because he has 2 past convictions for violent crimes.

Gian Trach Lon also assumed aliases Alan, Lee, Lon and Lun.

The judge, Giles Forrester said: "The attack was vicious and cruel. Not only was she stabbed twice in the neck, she was indeed decapitated whilst alive."

Evidence showed that Xie Xing Xing's head was cut off while she was still alive and was intoxicated with very high levels of cocaine. A post-mortem result showed that Xie Xing Xing had 37 separate knife wounds.

According to a news report, Xie Xing Xing came from well respected academic family in Sichuan, China, and was a successful student at a university in Liverpool when she came to the UK in 2002.

Cupping is an ancient Chinese therapy that is popular in Malaysia. It stimulates acupuncture points (meridian points) by applying metal, bamboo, wood, plastic, rubber or glass cups to suck your skin producing blood congestion and thus stimulating that area. Cupping therapy is commonly used for lower backaches, sprains, soft tissue injuries, and bronchitis.

Cupping is practiced not only in China but also in many other countries including Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and even in the Middle East using similar techniques but are called different names. There are different cups for different sucks.

Usually a "traditional or alternative medicine practitioner" will checking the patient's pulse rate and tongue, first. Then, the patient is asked to lie down on a bed or a flat surface. Cups are applied to his skin and a vacuum is created by sucking out the air from the cup by means of suction or by heat.

The cups are left on the skin for about 10-20 minutes.

Cupping is based by on stimulating and energising meridian points at the back of your body. When the meridians are opened, energy is believed to flow all parts of the body.

Does it work ? I donno. I've tried it once and it felt OK. I would have felt better if I had a massage instead.

In 3 months time you will be able to buy Malaysian made computers - RM1,000 for a laptop and RM500 for a desktop.

Mimos developed the computers named after Prime Minister Abdullah Badawi (i-Dola laptop) and Jean Abdullah (Jean-i desktop).

The computers are wireless, Internet-based designs. To reduce costs, they do not have hard discs. You use a thumb drive instead.

Whilst the quality of the government endorsed "made in Malaysia" computer is uncertain, I'm sure it can't be that bad, as all computers now days use almost the same components. It is therefore more accurate to say that these computers are "assembled" in Malaysia by Mimos.

This news is definitely a dilemma for those who plan to buy a new computer at PIKOM's PC Fair which starts today. Should they buy a new computer now or wait 3 months to buy a super cheap Malaysian made computer ?
