Google Wave - The Latest Online Communication Tool

According to Google, "a wave" is equal parts conversation and document. People can communicate and work together with richly formatted text, photos, videos, maps, and more.

Google Wave is not released to the public yet, but Google has sent out invitations to 100,000 people thus far to test it out prior to it becoming public. As Google Wave is rumored to be the next evolution in online communication, loads of people, mainly techies, are begging to get invites to test this new tool.

Read WSJ's take on Google Wave.

In my opinion, Google Wave is more or less a mashup between MSN (Windows Live) messenger, email, Facebook and Twitter. If it is received well, we might see the early demise of Facebook and Twitter.

It is confirmed that an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.9 richter hit Indonesia and tremors were felt in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Port Dickson and Singapore at about 6.25pm Malaysian time, today. In Kuala Lumpur, tables and chairs swayed, laptops shook, as a result of the tremors which was felt intermittently for approximately 15 minutes even by people located on the ground floor of buildings. No damage was so far reported.

According to a CNN report, the earthquake was recorded about 33 miles from Padang, the capital city of West Sumatra populated by 800,000 people. Apparently several buildings were damaged. People were seen running out of their homes toward the hills. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued a tsunami alert for Indonesia, India, Thailand and Malaysia.
Yesterday, a magnitude 8.0 quake -triggered tsunami killed at least 84 in the Samoan islands and Tonga.

Ancient Treasures Found Behind House

Local Malay tabloid, Kosmo ! reported that several sacks containing ancient treasures such as gold bangles, chains, earrings, parangs and other valuables, had supernaturally surfaced from the ground behind the house of 65 year old Hamidah Bakar.

Hamidah, from Kampung Muhibah, Tapah, Perak, turned amateur treasure hunter when an Indonesian acquintence told her, sometime in December 2004, about the buried treasures at the back of her house.

Hamdiah explained that the Indonesian man acted as a medium and he required 6 others to participate in the ritual to cause the treasures to surface from the ground supernatually.

The ritual which lasted for 20 minutes after Maghrib prayers was participated by the 7 people including herself. They sat in a circle at the place where the treasures where ment to surface and chanted special prayers while the Indonesian medium led the ritual. The treasures were then gathered and put into several sacks, explained Hamdiah.

One of the 7 participants, Kamaluddin Mohd. Zain, 70, (picture above) confirmed that no black magic has been used for this process.

Historian Prof. Emeritus Tan Sri Dr. Khoo Kay Kim, when asked about the treasures, said that it may have belonged to an ancient ruler of that area.

According to a National Museum curator, anyone who finds any old artefacts or treasures, in this country, must declare the findings with the National Heritage Department. Upon determining its value, the finder will be given an appropriate percentage of it. Failure to make such declaration, however, attracts a fine up to RM50,000 or jailed up to 5 years, or both.

The Red Durian Of Sabah

This unusual red durian initially found in the wilds of Sabah is called sukang, tabelak or simply “durian hutan”, among the Kadazandusun community.

A local daily reported that the small durians, about the size of a sepak takraw ball, are sold for RM2 to RM3 when they are in season.

Apparently its flesh is said to be comparatively thinner and drier to the normal durians.

According to those who has tired the red durian, its taste is said to be more or less similar with other local durians, although some say it tastes more "masam manis".

After the "discovery" of this red durian, it has since been cultivated at the Stesen Institut Penyelidikan dan Kemajuan Pertanian Malaysia (MARDI).

The original gutter post blog hosted using the blogspot subdomain on google's blogger platform has been banned by google sometime in February this year. It then moved to its own hosted site called www.GutterUncensored.com. This site has since been inaccessable.

While there are still people searching for gutter uncensored blogspot, the site owner has kept changing its url attempting to evade detection from the authorities.

The gutterpost which became famous after the expose of Edison Chen's nude pictures, was shut down by google because it violated google terms of service for blogger.

There are so many rumours why the new website Gutter Uncensored was been banned by google and now defunct.

So many sex scandal pics have been exposed by the gutter post and subsequesntly the Gutter Uncensored that it became very popular amongst Malaysians. The site according to Alexa.com, ranked among the the top 35 sites visited by Malaysians.

There were many copycat versions of the gutterpost but none were as successful.

Popular Website For "Casual Encounters"

A local daily has recently reported that there is a Singapore based website which is popular for "partner swapping" leading to casual sex. The website, called [website link deleted], has apparently been operational since march this year. The website is more or less a general classifieds which also has a personals section called "casual encounters".

Apparently, it is also common in Malaysia these days for people to seek casual sex partners or fuck buddies. Men or women pick up the opposite sex in clubs and, if they are in the mood, they have sex with each other. They later keep in touch by a phone call or SMS and have sex whenever they have the mood without any relationship commitments.

China Dolls Soliciting For Customers At Pudu Food Court

Female Chinese national sex workers locally referred to as the "China Girl" or "China Doll", have been soliciting for customers at food courts or hawker centres in the city for many years. The numerous public raids by the authorities doesn't seem to deter these women - they will return a few days later after each raid.

The major cause of this is, the high demand for sexual services among the men. Malaysian men are known to be humsup, so it will be difficult to curb this menace.

The above is the video clip of the raid conducted at one in Pudu food court in January 2008 where the police detained 61 China Girls and 14 men aged between 25 and 45 believed to be their customers.

In Kuala Lumpur, these Chinese prostitutes station themselves around the food courts and Chinese coffee shops at Jalan Gelang, off Jalan Loke Yew, also known as the "Pudu Area" (Jalan Pasar) food courts to some.

According to a news report by a local Chinese daily published in June this year, the women begin to ply their trade from 12pm to 6am each day. Apparently during the day, there are more middle aged women, while at night the younger ones take over.

These prostitutes offer their services to customers of the food court. After haggling and deciding on the price, the women take the men to flats nearby for sex. Some people say food and sex go well together - nothing like having "special desert" after eating a big bowl of curry laksa at the hawker centre.

While the news report says the sexual services range between RM100 and RM150 regardless of the woman’s age, there are rumours saying that the price can be as little as RM30 a session, depending on how one bargains with the Chinese prostitute.

Language is no barrier in this business. It doesn't matter if you cannot communicate in Mandarin, these women know how to make good use of their handphones. When dealing with a non Mandarin speaking customer, these women will type in the price on their handphone and show it to the customer. The customer will then haggle the price down by typing a lower price on the handphone. This process goes on until a an agreeable price is reached.

Orang Minyak Molests Virgins In Kedah

The Orang Minyak in Malay Culture is supposedly a ghost in the form of a naked man covered with oil making him slippery and difficult to apprehend. Orang Minyak means 'oily man' in Malay. It is believed that the Orang Minyak lives around several Malaysian towns and villages raping young women. It is a ghostly serial rapist.

An Orang Minyak is reportedly on the prowl in Taman Keladi dan Taman Angsana in Sungai Petani, Kedah, terrorising about 300 families as the apparition seemed to attack homes occupied by young women, reported a local tabloid.

17 year old Nurshahirah, from Taman Keladi, said that she woke up at about 5.40am this Monday when she felt a warm sensation on her left ear. When she opened her eyes, she saw a dark apparition with curly hair and thick moustache standing by her bed.

Nurshahirah revealed that she was even more shocked but was powerless to move when the Orang Minyak took off his sarong and started fondling himself while groping her body. It was as though a charm had been placed on her, she said.

42 year old housewife known as Fatimah, also from Taman Keladi, she said 2 of her daughters cried when they were woken up by the Orang Minyak that had molested them at about 5am on Monday. Her 15 year old daughter told her that she had been sexually assaulted by the ghost. Fatimah added that her 14 year old daughter also complained of being molested by the dark apparition. The 14 year old cried and ran from the living room.

Fatimah apparently chased the Orang Minyak with a parang but the it disappeared. She suspect the apparition might have placed a charm on her family as none of her neighbours heard her daughters’ screams.

A resident of neigbouring Taman Angsana, Salleh Ghani, 56, said the residents are now on red alert. He and some friends are intending to form a patroling unit to patrol round the neighborhood.

Andy Lau and Carol Chu - The Real Story

Andy Lau Tak-Wah, a Hong Kong Cantopop singer, film actor, and producer is one of Hong Kong's most commercially successful film actors since the 1990s.

Andy Lau has since appeared in more than 100 films and 300 mini-series with Hong Kong's TVB channel, and has a huge fan base throughout Asia with the success of both his on-screen performances and his musical career.

He has been married to his long time Malaysian girlfriend Carol Chu since June 23, 2008, but the marriage and relationship, though rumored, have only been confirmed by Andy Lau in August, last month.

Andy Lau and Carol Chu made a public appearance together for the first time last month, after years of evading rumours of their relationship.

The couple returned to Hong Kong after attending the funeral of Carol Chu’s late father who passed away last month in Malaysia.

Andy Lau and Carol Chu's public appearance together has ended 24 years of public speculation about the couple who have been linked together, but kept their relationship a secret until recently.

According to the rumour mill, Andy Lau has kept his relationship with Carol Chu a secret to protect her from threats by certain underworld figures, fans and harassment from the media.

There are also reports that Andy Lau has received an 'indecent proposal' by a female Malaysian Datuk to spend the night with her after she became infatuated with him.

Here is a short biography of Carol Chu:

It is believed that Carol Chu was born in Penang in 1967. She is the 4th child among 5 daughters in her family. Her father owns a seafood restaurant and moved the family to Kuala Lumpur when she was still young.

There are very little details about Carol Chu's career background but some say she was a part time model who was crowned Miss Modern Malaysia in 1986. Others, however, dispute this saying she was just a runner-up.

There are also many versions of how Carol Chu met Andy Lau, but which one is true, is still a mystery. She has, thus far, kept a very low profile and has not been known to speak to the media. Some sources say Andy Lau met Carol Chu when he was holidaying in Malaysia. Another claimed Carol Chu met Andy Lau in Hong Kong when she was attending a beauty seminar. Whatever the case, we wish the couple the very best in their marriage.

The Hungry Ghost Festival

I thought hungry ghost supposedly eat anything, but apparently not.

In Malaysia, people usually offer local delicacies like roast chicken, duck or pork, usually accompanied by steamed red Mi Ku and fluffy Uwa Ko Kueh and sometimes biscuits thrown in for dessert. I suppose these are what Chinese ghosts like to eat. I have yet to see food from KFC or McDonalds being offered to the ghosts. I dont' think the ghosts drink Starbucks coffee either.

According to a newspaper article, Hungry ghosts also eat fruits like pineapples, lychees and oranges. But not jambu or papayas.

This year, the hungry ghost month began on 20th August and will end on 17th September. The Chinese believe that during this time the gates of hell open, releasing ghosts and spirits to roam earth looking for appeasement, or food to satisfy their hunger.

In conjunction with this festival, makeshift stages and altars are contructed in Chinese populated areas in Malaysia especially in George Town, Ipoh, Taiping and the Klang Valley, for performances and prayers to appease the ghosts. Chinese operas and puppet shows are performed at this makeshift stages to entertain the ghosts in hope of keeping them from any mischief. These days, female singers wearing sexy outfits belting out Mandarin songs are also a common sight at these places. At these performances, the front row seats are always left vacant for the ghosts.

During the month, Chinese Taoists / Buddhists pray to dead ancestors and other spirits offering them food, money and other paper made luxuries.

Young children are discouraged from activities like swimming, cycling on the road or going out at night, throughout the festival, as it is believed they could be harmed by the ghosts. It is also considered bad luck to have marriage ceremonies during this time of year.
